Pet and 2 People with Background 12x12 Print 9x9 Print ------------------------------------- "A little bit about Mona! I met her about 4 years ago at work. Several of the executives were very involved in animal rescue and would sometimes bring in dogs they were fostering or networking. I had never met a pit bull before and only knew what I'd heard about in the media and, even as a dog lover, was initially afraid to pet her. As soon as I looked into her eyes, though, I knew she was a lover--not a fighter-- and I volunteered to take her home "for a night or two" since she didn't have a foster home. She immediately trusted me and my boyfriend despite the fact that she had suffered so greatly at the hands of humans and had only just met us. All she wanted was to be loved. And so, "a night or two" turned into fostering and attending adoption events every Saturday and Sunday, hoping passersby would notice the pit bull with the scars on her head rather than the small fluffy lap dog. How, we wondered week after week, could these people fail to notice what was so obvious to us? That this old soul in a four-legged body who never chewed furniture, never had "accidents" in the house and never barked needed and deserved a home. Little did we realize that, as the weeks passed and the three of us tackled challenges together (doggy diarrhea in our brand new apartment at 4AM, training Mona to walk nicely on a leash, addressing her fear-based dog aggression), we became a trio; she became ours and we, hers. When we officially adopted her and got all her paperwork, we found out that the date that she was rescued from the shelter (her scheduled euthanization date) was my birthday and knew it was really meant to be. Can't imagine life without this snugglebug!"
